Behavior Solutions

Private, One-on-One
Behavioral Training Program

Online behavioral consultations build a deep connection with your dog & solve the toughest behavior issues.

Personalized, in-depth help to solve serious problems, including:

Barking & Lunging on leash

Fear and Anxiety

When you are dealing with serious behavior problems, you need a different approach.

We go beyond obedience and get to the root of the issue, determine why your dog is responding the way she is, and work to repair that fundamental cause.

Comprehensive Behavioral Evaluation

Comprehensive Behavioral Evaluation:

First, we’ll talk through the behavior you’re seeing in-depth and reach a prognosis. We will identify root causes and isolate all the variables in your dog’s individual case. After this, you’ll understand WHY your dog is doing what he is doing. From there, we’ll decide the best next steps for you and your pup and customize a complete behavioral plan that we will implement together as we move forward in a specialized program.

90-minute behavioral evaluation

Behavior Consultations:

You’ll meet directly with me during live, hands-on sessions via Zoom. This is your chance to get feedback and ask questions! I’ll consult with you and we’ll review videos you’ve recorded while working with your dog to ensure you’re making maximum progress. We can also practice skills together.

You’ll be training in your home and in the real world, so your dog learns to listen to YOU where it matters.

You’ll receive (2) Behavioral Consultations in a 4 month program.

Online Lessons

In-home Skills Sessions:

I’ll assign you quick & easy online lessons specific to your dog’s unique situation before each hands-on session. Because these lessons are pre-recorded and available online, you can go through them slowly at your convenience.

This way, we won’t waste a minute of your hands-on training time on things you can review beforehand. Plus, you’ll have access to this material for life.

4 in-home Skills Sessions

Full Support Between Sessions:

While you’re working through your program, you’ll also have direct access to us via text & voice chat, and you’ll send videos for review. This way, you will receive guidance in the moment when you need it.

You’ll also receive access to online portal, with lessons for you to complete between sessions — so that your sessions can be spent customizing and troubleshooting, not reviewing things we can cover beforehand.

Online Training for Real-World Success

All clients begin online. From there, we can move to in-person sessions if necessary.
Why do we start this way? Simple: It works better.

...In fact, it’s proven to be up to 4x more effective...and it's less stressful for both you and your dog.

PLUS, your dog will learn to listen to YOU in his normal environment
--instead of just the trainer in the training building.

And, even though it’s online, this is a VERY high-touch program.

Don't you need to meet my dog and see the behavior in order to assess/address it?

No. There is no need to see your dog or the behavior in order to evaluate effectively.

Triggering a behavior in order to assess or train is unnecessary and unkind. We can't work with any dog when they are triggered because their brain is not in a learning state. It would be like assessing someone who's afraid of spiders by letting dozens of spiders crawl all over them and saying, "Yep, they seem scared."  Or imagine teaching someone to swim who's afraid of the water by throwing them off a boat in the ocean. Sure, they MIGHT learn to swim that way, if we're lucky and instinct kicks in. But they're way more likely to panic and drown, potentially even taking anyone who jumps in to save them down with them. Just like I don't need to see that person drowning to know they can't swim, I don't need to see your dog react to an upsetting trigger in order to assess or train. What I DO need is to get high-quality, in-depth information from you, so that I can identify the variables we need to work around in your specific case.

Does Online Training Really Work?

Absolutely! In fact, I’ve seen even BETTER results by leveraging online methods. If you want more info about this, I explain it all here.

Do you offer in-person training?

All clients start with the Behavioral Evaluation.  In most cases, this session is held online. If, after the evaluation, I believe your case would be better served by working in-person, I will make that recommendation. Most cases enjoy a better rate of success online, however - which is why my program utilizes that format. This is especially true if your dog suffers from anxiety!

Do You Have A Payment Plan/Do You Accept Cards?

Yes! I accept all major credit cards. You’ll receive your invoice through PayPal, and you can process your card there. You can also set up a payment plan through PayPal Credit, which will give you 6 months interest-free. (After six months, you’ll be charged interest.)

Do You Offer Sessions On Nights And Weekends?

Behavior sessions and separation anxiety sessions are held Monday - Thursday, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. In-person sessions, day training sessions, and hands-on skills sessions may be held at additional times.

What Technology Do I Need?

We use Zoom, which you can download for free on your computer from, or on your phone from the app store. It’s free and easy to use.

You'll also need to be able to record videos of your training sessions for feedback. You can easily do this with your phone. You might find it useful to either get a phone stand or tripod (you can easily find these on Amazon for $25 or less) and/or enlist a helper.

What If I’ve Worked With Other Trainers Before?

Many of our clients have worked with other trainers before and haven’t gotten the results they’ve been looking for. If you’ve done any of the following -- E-collar training, board and train, basic obedience classes, or watched famous dog trainers on TV -- this training is fundamentally different. We go deeper, the training is entirely science-based, and there is an emphasis on truly understanding and partnering with your dog.

What If My Dog Only Works For Treats?

Treats are a fantastic tool for learning and may be an integral part of our training approach. They shouldn’t be the factor that motivates cooperation from your dog, however. Dogs are highly social creatures; this means that every dog -- even the most independent or willful -- is craving a partnership with a human. When you put in the work to create a strong relationship foundation, your dog will do his part and meet you more than halfway -- without depending on treats.

When Will I See Results?

The majority of my clients see improvement after just a few weeks of focused work, and are satisfied with their program. However, every dog and every situation is individual.

Is It Worth The Cost?

Only you can truly answer this. Our methods go far deeper than standard dog training. When you work with me, you’re getting both my own unique relationship-based training methods AND the knowledge and skills of an internationally Certified Canine Behaviorist. There are only about 260 professionals with equivalent training and certification worldwide -- less when you consider the additional certifications I hold. Plus, what you’ll learn will fundamentally shift the way you approach working with your dog -- and you’ll be able to apply that to future dogs.

Do You Offer A Guarantee?

Here is what I can promise:

  • I will be honest and transparent with you about the likely outcomes and inform you during the first session if I do not believe I can help you.
  • I will deliver cutting-edge techniques based on the highest levels of current, scientifically-sound research.
  • You will be fully supported and your questions will be answered.
  • We will use only methods that are dog-friendly, maximally positive, minimally aversive, and pain-free. I will never ask you to do anything that might damage your relationship with your best friend.

In return, I ask that you be in active communication with me, utilize all features and benefits (including online resources) made available to you, and follow the instructions I give you precisely. This is necessary to get the highest level of results.

Have a question that isn’t answered here?

No problem. I’m happy to help with any additional questions. Just reach out via the contact form here. Please be specific about how I can help you and I’ll be in touch soon.

"Hayley, even as a tiny pup, had issues that couldn't be resolved with obedience training. I am so glad we chose Horizon! Through Desiree, we learned that we needed to change our approach to form a healthy relationship with our girl. We now live with a happy, sweet, well-adjusted companion. I would recommend Desiree to anyone for her patience, her knowledge, and her experience with dogspeak. Without her help we would still be struggling." - Jill H

"I spent months researching Dog Trainers in the Upstate that would be the best fit for our 2 year old Chiweenie and we hit the jackpot with Desiree! We had no idea what to do and knew he needed a kind and gentle approach. Desiree was very thorough and educated us on the why behind our dog's reactions, which in turn helped us understand his triggers. I can happily say our entire family is living a much better quality of life and he is way less anxious thanks to her." - Bree Zandy
